Fall Moab 2006

Our fall Moab trip this year was not exactly uneventful, the area had just experienced large downpours over several days. As a result, several trails were closed and we had to change our trail plans. We were still committed to running Golden Spike on Friday as that was our main goal for this trip. The Golden Spike run went smooth up until the last obstacle, Double Whammy, where Douwe experienced a failure of the right front wheel drive unit. After discussing several plans, we decided to leave his truck on the trail as we still had to complete Gold Bar Rim trail to make it out, and darkness was approaching.

The next day we made the decision to remove a wheel drive off another 710, the rain started up again and the trails in that area were closed on Saturday. Douwe returned to his truck on Sunday to install the borrowed wheel drive. We cannot extend our thanks enough to Jim Molter, former Pinz owner and RMP member, who now lives in Moab and returned Douwe to his truck and helped him get the wheel drive installed. Once again Jim, thank you VERY much!

Wait a minute...

Maybe we should connect the rear winch cable to a 710, just in case...

Mike Kinsey helps spool out the cable

I think it's getting deep

At this point water was filling in the passenger side, we changed our mind about this trail.
